Elements of a Place Kick

A Place Kick in rugby is used for kick-offs, penalty goals and conversions. Kick-offs are taken at center field, the 50m line, at the beginning of the game, half time and after a side scores a try. Kick-offs are a drop kick and must go 10m.

A penalty kick is taken from any point along the line perpendicular to the touchline from the place the offense was marked by the referee and the kicker’s goal line.

Conversion kicks, which are taken by the offense after scoring a try, may be taken at any point along the line perpendicular to the touchline at which the try was scored. The images below are from a conversion kick.
